Henniker Historical Society

Cupola Restoration at Academy Hall

A major goal of the Society has been to restore the cupola on our building. We are very pleased to announce that the project has been completed. Academy Hall now appears as it did at the end of the 19th century, thanks to the historically accurate and excellent workmanship of a Canterbury firm, Fifield Building Restoration.

Work on the cupola included replacing the existing railing and adding a second railing and four wooden spires. This work also included necessary structural repairs that lessened the lean of the cupola. This and the addition of a fan at the front of the building brought the cost of the project to a total of $18,100. We are glad to say that the entire cost was covered by generous donors who responded so well to our fund-raising efforts.

Academy Hall is one of the oldest buildings in the center of town, with a long and rich history. Its restoration has happened because of the interest and generous support shown by members and friends. Thank you all. The Society couldn't have done it without your help.
